The meeting of the leaders of the two world nuclear powers, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, provided answers to a number of important questions, said Mamuka Mdinaradze, executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
The talks between the Russian and American leaders took place on August 15 in Anchorage. The parties reached an understanding on a number of positions in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
The meeting between Trump and Putin answered the following questions:
1. Was this war a proxy war? Yes, it was a confrontation between the West and Russia, organized by a third country. Donald Trump himself confirmed this fact.
2. Was Georgia considered part of this war? Yes, it was part of the plan, as a second proxy state, and if not for the steadfastness of the authorities, Georgia would be in ruins today.
3. Could this war have been avoided? Yes, both the Americans and Russians at the leadership level agree that this war would not have happened if Trump had been in power (i.e. had the appropriate political will).
4. Was the dilemma of war or peace real? Of course, this was the main dilemma that Georgia faced.
"With the support of the Georgian people, we made an uncontested decision that saved the state and the lives of tens of thousands of our citizens. We paid a high political price for it," Mdinaradze said.
According to the politician, all those agents who tried to drag Georgia into the war, secretly transported the former president, now convicted Mikheil Saakashvili, to the country, wanted to organize a revolution in the country, must be punished for this.
Following the meeting, US President Donald Trump said that he expects to hold more talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin soon. He also agreed that the next meeting could be held in Moscow.
