Iran's new supreme leader, Mostafa Khamenei, was wounded in an air strike, and his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US-Israeli attack on Iran.
The US Central Command (Centcom) stated that the Iranian regime was using civilian ports to conduct ‘military operations that threaten international shipping.’ It warned Iranian civilians to ‘immediately clear’ all ports along the Strait of Hormuz, where Iranian naval forces operate.
As the conflict entered its twelfth day, the Iranian military promised to strike ‘economic centres and banks’ linked to American and Israeli interests. Iran continued its attacks on neighbouring oil-exporting countries, threatening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and plunging the global energy economy into crisis.
Sources indicate that intelligence assistance provided by Russia may have helped Iran detect American warships, radar systems, and other communications infrastructure, underscoring the escalating geopolitical implications of this conflict and potentially creating risks for American ships, aircraft, and bases in the region. However, there is no evidence that Moscow is helping Iran to target missiles or drones.
