The movement of all kinds of vehicles on the Georgian Military Road has been suspended due to worsening weather conditions in Georgia, the State Department of Emergency Situations of Russia in North Ossetia reports.

“Due to worsening weather conditions on the territory of Georgia, the impossibility of ensuring safe passage, as well as taking into account the recommendations of the border police of Georgia prohibited the movement of all types of vehicles on the section of the city of Vladikavkaz - the village of Lars - in the direction of exit from the Russian Federation from 00.20 February 27, 2025 until a special order,” - stated in the message of the department in Telegram-channel.

Earlier, the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation reported that the movement of heavy vehicles through the checkpoint “Upper Lars” on the border between Russia and Georgia is suspended due to deteriorating weather conditions on the territory of Georgia.

The Georgian Military Road connects Vladikavkaz and Tbilisi through the Upper Lars border checkpoint. The highway passes through the Cross Pass, which is almost 2.4 thousand meters high. Currently, it is the only land route connecting Russia with Georgia and further on with Armenia. From late fall to early spring, avalanches and snow drifts are not uncommon on the road, blocking traffic.
