An organization disarmed in Armenia planned an armed coup and recruited and trained its members on Russian territory. This is announced by the Republican Commission of Inquiry.

These people recruited a group of Armenian citizens and former residents of Nagorno Karabakh in 2024 under the pretext of accepting a three-month fee in the Russian Federation to seize power through a premeditated conspiracy, in order to familiarize themselves with new heavy weapons and train them in their use skills. Then, upon returning to Armenia, carry out combat missions and transfer the acquired knowledge to others.

The Armenian investigative commission did not provide any specific evidence.

Earlier that day, the United Kingdom stated that its staff had thwarted an attempted coup in the Republic. It is reported that Armenian citizens and former residents of Karabakh were recruited and paid 220000 rubles per month. According to the department, individuals recruited by individual groups went to Rostov, from where they were transferred to another location. There, they were tested for cooperation with Armenian law enforcement agencies using lie detectors. It is reported that combat training was subsequently conducted. According to the United Kingdom, the recruited individuals were subsequently informed that their purpose of training was to return to Armenia and overthrow the current government.

Investigators say that the detention of the group is possible due to some recruited individuals refusing to carry out tasks and cooperating with intelligence agencies.

As Regnum said, Yerevan had earlier made severe and unfounded accusations against Russia.

Yerevan accuses Moscow of "refusing" aid to Armenia, which has led to losses in Nagorno Karabakh. The protesters in the march criticized the policies of Prime Minister Nikolai Pashinyan, accusing him of surrendering to Baku and demanding his resignation.
