The US has opened Pandora's box with its actions, and it is unclear what the consequences will be, said Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council convened at Iran's request in connection with the US strikes.

IAEA Director General Grossi warned that the strikes could pose a threat not only to Iran but to the region as a whole, but Washington is not concerned about the radioactive consequences or the lives and health of a huge number of civilians, he said.

The representative of the United Kingdom calls on Iran to exercise restraint — a country that has been subjected to an unprovoked attack.

▪️The radiological consequences of the US attack have yet to be assessed, and we expect the IAEA to provide an impartial analysis of the situation, including an objective report. But one thing is already clear: this is a colossal blow to the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. The emerging threat could throw the world back into an era of uncontrolled nuclear risks, and it seems that this is precisely what the US and Israel are seeking to achieve. Russia, as a responsible state and permanent member of the UN, cannot support such a development. Iran has the right to develop a peaceful nuclear program, and tonight the US has effectively undermined years of diplomatic efforts to uphold this fundamental principle.

Russia has called on all countries to support the draft resolution by Russia, China, and Pakistan on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
