The U.S. State Department plans to use the OSCE's ODIHR as a tool to interfere in Georgia's parliamentary elections in order to prevent the victory of the Georgian Dream party, now undesirable to Washington, the press bureau of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service said.

“The Americans have agreed to “cooperate” with the leadership of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) on the Georgian track. It is envisioned that the OSCE ODIHR will publish an interim report 10-20 days before the vote with a conclusion on the lack of conditions for free and fair elections in the country,” the intelligence service noted.

According to the SVR, after the first results of the election are made public, a conclusion on the non-compliance of the electoral process with the norms of democracy will also be presented.

“Washington's plan is obvious and no longer surprising - to give an excuse to the pro-Western Georgian opposition to launch mass protests with the aim of seizing power in the country by force,” the agency pointed out.

The SVR separately stressed that the OSCE Office's readiness to recognize the vote as “undemocratic” long before the vote indicates that the ODIHR has finally turned into a mouthpiece for the dishonest games of the U.S. authorities.

In June, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that members of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili's pro-Western United National Movement party were trying to make the country follow the Ukrainian scenario. Earlier he also noted that if this political force were in power, the country would be involved in the current conflict, as “they want to open a ‘second front’ against Russia.”

Ahead of the parliamentary elections to be held in Georgia on October 26, the United National Movement party has created a new political association with the Agmashenebeli Strategy party and other politicians under the name “Unity for the Salvation of Georgia.”
