New York Mayor Eric Adams is suspected of receiving money from foreign countries for his election campaign in 2021. Uzbekistan is among those countries, the media reported.

In November 2023, the mayor turned in his cell phones as part of a separate federal investigation. It seeks to determine whether he received illegal donations from citizens and government officials in Turkey for his 2021 election campaign.

According to The New York Times, the investigation covers not only Turkey, but also Israel, Qatar, China, South Korea, Israel and Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is the only country Adams has not visited.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Adams' campaign staff colluded with the Turkish government to receive illegal donations from abroad ahead of the 2021 election. Also under investigation are suspicions that the mayor pressured the fire department to approve the construction of a new Turkish consulate despite security concerns.

Mayor Adams, while denying any wrongdoing, told a public meeting in the Bronx that his administration is focused on serving the city.

“This dedicated team is one of the most diverse administrations in the history of New York City. They continue to lead us forward on a well known mission,” Adams said.

It is also being reported that another top official in Mayor Adams' administration is resigning. New York City Health Commissioner, Dr. Ashwin Wasan, submitted his resignation Monday and will leave his post by the end of the year.
