The U.S. expressed a desire to participate in the construction of nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. This was announced by Khush Choksi, senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“The US has the best technologies when it comes to nuclear power plants. And we hope that there will be an open tender that will allow American companies to participate as well,” informburo.kz quoted Choksi as saying.

On October 6, Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant. 5,561,937 citizens, or 71.12%, voted for the construction of the nuclear power plant, while 2,045,271 people voted against it. The final turnout of Kazakhstanis at the referendum amounted to 7,820,204 people, or 63.66%.

Kazakh President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev told reporters after the referendum vote that if citizens support the idea of building a nuclear power plant, the project should be realized by a consortium of international companies.
