US President Donald Trump is now taking questions from reporters and has made several statements relevant to the war in Ukraine and confrontation with Russia in Europe, BBC reports.
This is not the first time Trump has questioned the US commitment to defend other NATO countries. "If they're not paying, I'm not going to defend them," he said. NATO countries do not pay the US, but seek to better fund their own defense capabilities (a spending level of 2% of GDP was adopted as a benchmark as recently as 10 years ago).
According to popular opinion, many of the alliance countries do not allocate enough money for this purpose.
