Trump's special envoy to visit Russia this week

US President Donald Trump announced that his special envoy Steve Whitcoff will visit Russia this week. According to Armenpress, this was reported by the Associated Press. On Sunday, August 3, responding to questions from journalists about the date of Whitcoff's visit, the US president said: “I think he may go to Russia next week, on Wednesday or Thursday.” Speaking about what Russia can do to avoid US sanctions, Trump said: “Reach an agreement that will stop the killing of people.” Earlier, the US president threatened Russia with tough sanctions if it did not establish a ceasefire with Ukraine in the near future. The upcoming visit to Russia will be Steve Whitcoff's fourth. He last visited in April and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. The focus of the meeting was the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
