Hungarian President Tamás Szuyok congratulated Mikhail Kavelashvili on his election as President of Georgia.
As noted in the congratulatory letter, Hungary defends the inviolability of Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty in the strongest possible manner and supports Georgia's aspirations for European integration.
‘President-elect of Georgia Mikhail Kavelashvili, please accept my congratulations and best wishes on your election as President of Georgia. I confirm that Hungary is ready for the bilateral development of friendly co-operation between our nations,’ Szujok wrote.
According to him, Hungary is also ready to expand joint projects within the framework of strategic partnership.
Szujok wished Kavelashvili health and success in his responsible activity.
‘I confirm my sincere respect,’ the letter reads.
Earlier, the leaders of Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Serbia and Belarus congratulated Mikhail Kavelashvili on his election as President of Georgia.
Kavelashvili took the oath of office on 29 December and became the sixth president of Georgia. He succeeded Salome Zurabishvili, the first female president in the country's history.
Kavelashvili was elected president of Georgia on 14 December. The presidential election in Georgia followed the American model for the first time - he received 224 Electoral College votes out of 300.
