Moldovan military personnel will take part in the multinational Agile Spirit 2025 exercises in Georgia from July 23 to August 7, which will also involve NATO countries, according to the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
"Soldiers of the National Army will take part in the multinational Agile Spirit 2025 exercises, which will be held from July 23 to August 7 at training centers in Georgia. Moldovan officers, sergeants, and soldiers will interact with military personnel from Romania, Bulgaria, the United States, Poland, Lithuania (these countries are NATO members - ed.), Georgia (not a NATO member - ed.), and other participating states (in the exercises - ed.)," according to a statement posted on the Moldovan Ministry of Defense website.
As specified in the publication, the purpose of the exercises is to improve the combat readiness and operational compatibility of the armies of partner countries, as well as the effectiveness of actions within the framework of international peacekeeping operations.
Moldovan military personnel have been training under the Agile Spirit program since 2023.
According to the constitution, Moldova is a neutral country, but since 1994 it has been cooperating with NATO under an individual plan, and after Sandu came to power, military exercises involving the US, British, German, and Romanian military began to be held frequently in the country.
Western countries and the current Moldovan government, led by President Maia Sandu, are pursuing a consistent policy of militarizing Moldova and encouraging anti-Russian sentiment. Moldova's defense strategy, adopted by parliament at the end of last year until 2034, identifies the Russian contingent in Transnistria as a threat. The document also envisages close cooperation with NATO and an increase in Moldova's military spending to 1% of GDP by 2030. Meanwhile, deputies from the opposition bloc “Victory” boycotted the parliamentary session, and representatives of the opposition bloc of communists and socialists stated that this strategy contradicts the country's neutral status.
