The Georgian Parliament passed a law to abolish the Security Council

On Thursday, the Georgian Parliament adopted amendments to the law “On Planning and Coordination of National Security Policy” in the third and final reading, which imply the elimination of the Security Council, according to the press service of the legislative body.
The amendments were supported by 83 deputies.
“According to the amendment, the National Security Council will be abolished on September 1, 2025. It was also established that the Georgian government will be the coordinating body for national security policy planning,” the press service said in a statement.
According to the amendments, a special commission will be created to liquidate the National Security Council. Its composition and powers will be determined by the government.
