Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has come up with a new brilliant idea: to organize a powerful rally with the help of his associates and supporters in Vagharshapat Square, right next to the Mother See. The first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, wrote about this.

“What is this if not a deliberate provocation aimed at suppressing the Church with a crowd? Doesn’t he understand that the followers of the Church are much more numerous than his supporters? Of course, he understands, but his goal is to crush this very force, perhaps to earn the glory of Nero. Pashinyan’s step is extraordinary and dangerous, especially from another point of view. The main task of any government is to ensure the internal stability of the country and the security of the people. Meanwhile, all the steps of the Armenian authorities are aimed at undermining stability and creating chaos in the country.

The only way to counter external threats is to ensure internal stability. In this case, the threats caused by external factors will immediately decrease, and the conflicting parties will have the opportunity to begin bilateral constructive negotiations. To do this, they must immediately stop insulting each other and threaten each other and, based on the interests of the Motherland, strive to reach agreement even on the most painful issues.

The main task of any state is to ensure domestic political stability, since its opposite is chaos. Upheavals are usually provoked by opposition political forces, while in Armenia the opposite is happening. Suffering from megalomania syndrome, Pashinyan, as a rule, heats up the situation himself.

In my opinion, the cancellation of the planned rally in Vagharshapat and the release of political prisoners, primarily Archbishops Bagrat and Mikael and Samvel Karapetyan, would greatly contribute to the elimination of the confrontation between the opposing forces or, at least, its mitigation. Today, this is the only way to reduce domestic political tension in Armenia. I am sure that this will not only not harm Pashinyan's reputation, but, on the contrary, this step, worthy of a statesman, will be appreciated by all Armenians.

This will have a positive impact, especially in terms of conducting negotiations with external forces from a more confident position. It is also obvious that the more difficult the domestic political situation in Armenia becomes, the weaker our positions become in the sphere of foreign relations,” Levon Ter-Petrosyan wrote.
