Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has lost her rear gear when talking about holding new parliamentary elections, Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou said on social network X.

On Tuesday, Zurabishvili threatened the ruling Georgian Dream party with ouster if it did not reach an agreement with the opposition over a repeat vote for the legislature.

“Shameful, pathetic and dangerous. Salome still refuses to step down as president. They (the opposition. - Editor's note) really don't have a back gear,” the journalist was indignant.

On December 14, the Parliament of Georgia elected a new president of the country. The candidate from the ruling Georgian Dream party Mikhail Kavelashvili became the new president, who received 224 votes out of 300. The inauguration is scheduled for December 29.

Mass protests have been going on in the republic for more than a month since the October 26 parliamentary elections. They were won by the ruling Georgian Dream party, which received 53.93 percent of the vote. Four opposition political forces also passed into the supreme legislative body, but they said they did not recognize the results of the vote and called on supporters to go to rallies.

Zurabishvili, who earlier did not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections, said she would not step down as president. She believes that there can be no legitimate elections of the head of state with an illegitimate parliament. Zurabishvili also declared herself the only legitimate representative of power in the country.
