Armenian Ambassador to Russia Sergey Kopyrkin addressed an open letter to Defense Minister Suren Papikian, in which he touched upon recent statements by the head of the Command and Staff Institute of the Military Academy of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan.

Earlier, former Defense Ministry spokesman, head of the Command and Staff Institute of the Military Academy after V. Sargsyan Artsrun Hovhannisyan, was quoted as saying that the Armenian Defense Ministry's spokesman, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, had recently made statements about the military academy. Artsrun Hovhannisyan on the air of the Public Television of Armenia called a myth the claim that the USSR victory in the Battle of Stalingrad saved Armenia from the Turkish invasion. At the same time, he stated that “Germany was not fascist, but only Nazi”, and the victory in World War II was made possible by the US lend-lease and the opening of the second front.

The Russian ambassador recalled the contribution of Armenians to the victory over Hitler's Germany, whose actions were actually justified by the representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry on the Public Television.

“Against the background of deep respect for the Victory holiday, the Armenian people were widely indignant at the historically false and blasphemous statements of the former official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia A. Hovhannisyan with actual justification of the aggression of Hitler's Germany, voiced by him on this holy date on the main TV channel of the country. It was especially painful to hear such statements from the mouth of the person who now heads the Command and Staff Institute (Military Academy), which bears the name of the glorious commander of the Great Patriotic War, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal Baghramyan,” the letter reads.

Kopyrkin called the actions of the Defense Ministry representative as an attempt to desecrate the memory of heroic ancestors, who prevented the realization of Hitler's plans to enslave and destroy the peoples of the USSR, as well as saved humanity from the “brown plague.”

The diplomat also noted that the commemorative events held on May 9 in Armenia were widely supported by the people. And the residents of both older and younger generations, at the call of their hearts came to the war memorials to honor the memory of 600 thousand Armenians, who went to defend the Motherland, 300 thousand of whom didn't return home.

It should be noted that on the air of the Public Television of Armenia attempts are made to falsify the history of the Great Patriotic War and downplay the role of the Soviet army, in which Armenians also fought.
