Anti-Russian rhetoric from NGOs in Georgia is xenophobia, the purpose of which is to incite hatred in the country, wrote the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili on his page on the social network.
Papuashvili commented on the post of a representative of one of the NGOs in Georgia, who reproached the authorities for their good attitude towards Russians, to the point of allowing them to participate in competitions. We are talking about the arrival in Georgia of Russian fencers, who are taking part in the world championship in Tbilisi in a neutral status.
"Of course, this is xenophobia, and of course, this is xenophobia financed and encouraged by the EU Embassy... The purpose of xenophobia is to incite hatred and violence. And of course, the EU Embassy will neither condemn nor distance itself from the xenophobia of its NGOs," Papuashvili wrote.
According to media reports, on Sunday, July 27, a group of activists burned the Russian flag near a hotel in Tbilisi where Russian fencers participating in the World Championship were staying. Russian athletes are participating in the competitions in a neutral status.
Unknown people set off firecrackers near the hotel where the Russian delegation is staying and unfurled a banner near the arena with the inscription "today there are fireworks, and tomorrow there will be hailstorms."
The Russian Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia called the burning of the Russian flag a Russophobic act and a provocation. The Section expressed hope that the competent authorities of Georgia will take the necessary measures to ensure fair, non-discriminatory and non-politicized competitions.
