The West is trying to twist Tbilisi's arms and dictate its terms, it is hard to imagine how the proud Georgian people tolerate such ultimatums, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"There is one situation in Georgia, we do not influence or interfere in Georgian affairs in any way at all, it is up to the Georgians themselves to make appropriate decisions. But we see absolutely unprecedented attempts at interference from the West, they are not only trying to twist Tbilisi's arms, but they are literally trying to dictate terms," Peskov said when asked how the Kremlin reacts to accusations against Russia over its alleged attempts to influence elections in Georgia.

He added that it was hard to imagine "how the proud Georgian people tolerate such ultimatums that are hurled at them every day."

Georgia will hold parliamentary elections on October 26 under the proportional system. Parties need to pass the five percent threshold to get into parliament. The party with the most votes will be able to present a candidate for prime minister. The support of 76 deputies out of 150 is needed to approve the head of the government and its cabinet.
