Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan once again stated that not only does Azerbaijan control the sovereign territories of Armenia, but also a number of sovereign territories of Azerbaijan are under the control of the Armenian side.

According to him, over the past 10 days, many in Armenia have been wondering: if Yerevan and Baku recognize each other's territorial integrity, "then what will happen to the more than 200 square kilometers of occupied territories of Armenia." He added that according to the Washington Declaration of the leaders of Armenia, the United States and Azerbaijan and the initialed Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement, the two countries recognized the inviolability of borders and territorial integrity of each other on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991. This, according to Pashinyan, means the recognition by the parties of the current territories of the two republics within the borders of the Armenian SSR and the Azerbaijan SSR.

"This issue must be resolved in the process of border delimitation. However, the logic of the world, the new logic is this: if we say that there are sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia that are now under Azerbaijani control, then we must also say that there are sovereign territories of Azerbaijan that are under our control. This mutual issue must be resolved in the process of delimitation," Pashinyan said in a televised address to his fellow citizens.

Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan claimed that about 200 square kilometers in the Syunik, Gegharkunik and Tavush regions of Armenia are under the control of Azerbaijani forces. According to him, these territories have been under Azerbaijani control since the 1990s, as well as "during the attacks on the territory of Armenia in May 2021 and September 2022." Earlier, following a meeting between Pashinyan, US President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Washington, a declaration was adopted on the initialing by the foreign ministers of the two Transcaucasian republics of the agreed text of the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations. Yerevan also agreed to cooperate with the US and third parties to create the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" linking Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan autonomy through the territory of Armenia.
