Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin has said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Moscow will consider Washington's proposal for a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine. His words are quoted by TASS.
The ambassador at the same time emphasized that a complete cessation of hostilities will follow only after a peace agreement is reached.
“We are approaching this with great caution. We will stop military actions when we reach a full, comprehensive agreement,” he told reporters.
Kelin added that Moscow's skepticism about the possibility of a truce was linked to previous experience in negotiations with Kiev.
Delegations from the U.S. and Ukraine met in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Zelensky's office published a joint statement by Kiev and Washington on the results of the talks, which notes that Kiev is ready for the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, it can be extended by agreement of the parties. The document also says that the US will immediately cancel the pause in intelligence sharing and resume military supplies to Ukraine.
