The situation in the Middle East and the importance of diplomatic efforts to ensure long-term peace and stability were the topics of discussion at a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Israeli Ambassador Hadas Meitzad.
According to the government press service, the Prime Minister received the Israeli diplomat, who is completing his mission in Georgia. At the farewell meeting, the parties emphasized the centuries-old history of friendly relations between the two countries.
Kobakhidze thanked Meitzad for her contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation and wished her success in her future activities.
"During the meeting, attention was also paid to the latest developments in the Middle East, while the importance of diplomatic efforts to ensure long-term peace and stability was emphasized," the statement said.
Earlier, the Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the growing tensions in the Middle East and emphasized the special importance of diplomatic efforts to ensure stability in the region.
On the night of June 13, Israel launched an operation against Iran, accusing it of implementing a secret military nuclear program. The aerial bombardments and raids by sabotage groups targeted nuclear facilities, generals, prominent nuclear physicists and air bases.
Iran rejected the accusations, responding with its own attacks. The parties exchanged strikes for 12 days, which were joined by the United States, which carried out a one-time attack on Iran's nuclear facilities on the night of June 22. After that, on the evening of June 23, Tehran launched missile strikes on the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, stating that the Iranian side did not intend to escalate further.
US President Donald Trump then expressed hope that Iran had "let off steam" with the strike on the US military base in Qatar, and that a path to peace and harmony in the Middle East was now possible.
