Tbilisi Mayor and Georgian Dream general secretary Kakha Kaladze has been added to the US sanctions list, the opposition Formula TV channel reported citing its own sources.
Also named are parliamentary majority leader Mamuka Mdinaradze, head of the legal committee Henri Ohanashvili and party Political Council member Dmitri Samkharadze.
Earlier, the State Department said it was imposing sanctions on more than 60 members of the Georgian government and parliament, as well as their family members, for “rolling back democracy in Georgia.”
The entire list of 60 people has not yet been announced.
Earlier, on September 16, it became known that the head of the Department for Special Assignments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Zviad Kharazishvili, his deputy, as well as two representatives of the pro-Russian group “Alt-Info” were included in the sanctions list of the U.S. Treasury Department.
The Georgian government said that the U.S. sanctions are counterproductive, considered Washington's assessments biased and threatened to revise relations.
