During a working visit to Tehran by Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan, he held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The two sides discussed the agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the August 8th Washington summit.
According to a statement from the Armenian Security Council's press service, Grigoryan informed Pezeshkian of the content of the agreements reached at the Washington summit, describing them as an "important milestone in the peace process." Pezeshkian stated that the recent high-level contacts between Armenia and Iran, along with his official visit to Yerevan, had "effectively eliminated uncertainties on the Iranian side."
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining continuous dialogue with the aim of elevating bilateral relations to a strategic partnership level. It was previously reported that on August 8th, at a summit in Washington hosted by US President Donald Trump and attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, a joint declaration was signed. This declaration confirmed a seven-point framework reaffirming principles such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the renunciation of the use of force.
During the summit, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the draft "Agreement on Establishing Peace and Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia." President Trump, President Aliyev, and Prime Minister Pashinyan served as signing witnesses.
A key component of the agreement is the establishment of the "Trump International Peace and Prosperity Route" (abbreviated as TRIPP, also known as the Zangezur Corridor). This transit route will traverse southern Armenia, connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, and is intended to promote regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
