In connection with statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan targeting the church, a complaint has been filed with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. This was reported by Ara Zohrabyan, rector of the Armenian Academy of Lawyers.

"Nikol Pashinyan, as prime minister, is obliged to abide by the principles of conduct established by the Law on Public Service, which are:

(1) awareness of public service,

(2) commitment to public interests,

(3) good manners and respectfulness,

(4) integrity,

(5) objectivity.

Nikol Pashinyan, who is obliged to show good manners, politeness, tact, and restraint in any situation, with his unrestrained (cynical) vocabulary, motivated by discriminatory attitudes, has committed an encroachment on high-ranking representatives of the clergy, in particular, the Catholicos of All Armenians, Bishop Mikael Ajapakhian, and is also attempting to interfere in the independent administration of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.

I would like to remind you that, in accordance with paragraph 2 of part 2 of the Law “On Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church,” the Republic of Armenia recognizes the self-government of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church within its hierarchy. A complaint has been filed with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption regarding these and other violations.

It is expected that the Commission will initiate proceedings and conclude that Nikol Pashinyan, who holds the office of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, has violated the rules of conduct," he wrote.
