New election posters of the ruling Georgian Dream party appeared on the streets of different cities of the country today.
The banners depict the leaders of the main pro-Western parties - Nika Melia, Nika Gvaramia, Giorgi Vashadze, Mamuka Khazaradze and Mikheil Saakashvili - on leashes. The slogan reads “No to war! No to Agencies!”.
These posters continued the Georgian Dream narrative about the existence of a certain “global war party”. It allegedly influences leaders in the EU and the US and has its own “agents” in Georgia. According to this conspiracy theory, the “global war party” wants to open a “second front” in Georgia, and Georgian Dream opposes it at all costs.
A couple of weeks ago, the ruling party put up posters where images of destroyed Ukrainian cities were contrasted with shots of peaceful life in Georgia.
The campaign sparked a flurry of criticism. In response, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the GM considers it fundamental to compare war and peace before the parliamentary elections in Georgia.
In his latest interview with Imedi TV channel, Kobakhidze added that the posters are meant to “reveal the truth” as the opposition media “successfully hide from the Georgian population what happened and what is happening in Ukraine today.”
