Fifth President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili expressed confidence that the ruling Georgian Dream party may initiate early parliamentary elections. She stated this in an interview with Formula TV channel.

“Whether they want to call elections or not, I don't rule out that they will call them themselves, because no one has come up with another solution for a country in such a crisis,” Zurabishvili noted.

She also recalled the problems with international recognition of the legitimacy of the Georgian Dream government four months after the disputed parliamentary elections. According to the president, although a number of countries have recognized the government's legitimacy “for ideological reasons,” there is no real recognition in the international arena.

“The way out of this situation is possible either through the fall of the regime, if they take the situation to the extreme, or through voluntary elections,” Zurabishvili added.

She also said that some European countries are ready to assist in investigating the “manifold falsification”, which she said took place in the October 2024 elections and “has not yet been fully investigated”, as well as help in organizing new elections to exclude manipulation and ensure their transparency.

Zurabishvili noted that she discussed the issue with the leaders of Estonia and the Czech Republic on the margins of the Munich Security Conference.
