Georgia will be more ready to join the European Union by 2030 than other candidate countries, the ruling Georgian Dream party said in a statement released on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the political force's foundation.
“Despite the fact that the European bureaucracy is still engaged in blackmailing Georgia and trying to bring undemocratic forces back to power, we promise the society that our political team will face all challenges with dignity and Georgia will meet the EU enlargement announced by 2030 the most prepared than other candidate countries. We hope that by that time the current Brussels bureaucracy will be replaced by a dignified, independent and future-oriented elite of the EU and Europe,” the statement reads.
The political force notes that Georgia has made tangible progress on the path of European integration precisely under the Georgian Dream government.
“After 2012, the country signed an association and free trade agreement and received a visa-free regime. We also received candidate status, which Georgia's detractors and the European bureaucracy acting under their dictation viewed as an instrument of blackmail against the country,” the statement noted.
On November 28, 2024, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the decision to suspend consideration of the issue of starting negotiations on the country's membership in the European Union until 2028. Since then, there have been continuous protests in Georgia demanding new parliamentary elections.
