Georgia's Central Election Commission has begun selecting temporary members of district election commissions

The Central Election Commission of Georgia has announced a competition to select temporary members of district election commissions for the local government elections on October 4, 2025, the commission's press service reported.


The day before, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili issued a decree scheduling local government elections for October 4.


“The Election Commission, in accordance with the practice established in recent years, will conduct the selection of temporary members of district election commissions for local government elections in an open and transparent manner,” the statement said.


Applications will be accepted from August 6 to August 7, 2025, until 6:00 p.m. at the Central Election Commission of Georgia. The CEC adopted the relevant resolution at its meeting on August 5.


Applicants can also submit documents via a special electronic platform (konkursi.cec.gov.ge).


Interested parties will be able to observe the interviews directly through the CEC's official social media accounts.


As for the details of the competition, it was announced in 73 district election commissions. There are three vacant positions in each district. Detailed information is available on the CEC's official website. You can also contact the call center by calling 2 51 00 51.

The threshold for proportional elections to all district advisory bodies (sakrebulo) is 4%. To win the mayoral and majority deputy elections, it is necessary to obtain a majority of votes. Each sakrebulo has between 15 and 50 seats.


At present, six parties have announced their participation in the elections: Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, New Political Center – Girchi, Lelo – Strong Georgia, For Georgia, Conservatives for Georgia, and Fatherland, Language, Faith.


Freedom Square, European Georgia, United National Movement, Agmashenebeli Strategy, Akhali, Girchi – More Freedom, Droa, and Federalists have officially declined to participate in the elections.
