Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have met in New York to discuss non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
“The importance of adherence to the principle of non-interference of countries in each other's internal affairs to strengthen mutual trust was outlined. We agreed to continue our constant dialog in the spirit of alliance,” Saidov said in his Telegram channel.
The meeting also discussed current topics of strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as preparations for upcoming joint events.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted after the meeting that “special attention was paid to the need to counter manifestations of intolerance on interethnic grounds.” Earlier, Zakharova said that the Foreign Ministry requested official explanations from Uzbekistan about the beating of a pupil of school No. 188 in Tashkent. This happened as information spread on social networks that the pupil was hit because he asked his teacher to speak Russian.
TASS sources also said that the Russian Foreign Ministry made a representation to the Uzbek ambassador in Moscow for this reason.
“A corresponding representation has been made to the Uzbek ambassador,” the agency's interlocutor said.
At the same time, the deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Alisher Kadyrov, advised the Russian authorities to “deal with their own problems.”
