On New Year's Eve on the scale of Georgia, 58 people applied to the ambulance service with injuries received when using pyrotechnics. This was reported by the Center for Coordination of Emergency Situations and Emergency Care.

In particular, 33 citizens were injured in Tbilisi, 20 of whom required hospitalization. In other regions of the country 25 people applied to the ambulance, 20 of them had to be sent to hospitals.

In Tbilisi on New Year's Eve there were 208 cases of medical calls due to alcohol consumption. Out of them 64 people were hospitalized. In the regions there were 110 cases of alcohol and food intoxication, 67 citizens were transferred to hospitals.

Compared to previous years, the statistics of victims of pyrotechnics have increased. On the night of January 1, 2021, 51 people were injured in Georgia, in 2022 - 27 people, in 2023 - 39.

Against the backdrop of mass protest actions in mid-December, the Georgian parliament passed legislative amendments in an accelerated mode, banning the launching of fireworks at rallies. In addition, the rules for import-export, production and sale of pyrotechnic products in Georgia were tightened. Now a license is required for this purpose.

In Tbilisi, fireworks disappeared from sale even before the innovations came into force. The media reported that the tax authorities sealed specialized stores in the capital's largest markets.

Although it is true that pyrotechnics are no longer used at protest rallies, fireworks were launched on a large scale on New Year's Eve both in Tbilisi and in other cities across the country.
