Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to determine with the leadership of the ruling Justice and Development Party (Ak Parti) a new strategy for resolving the Kurdish issue, the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak reported.

According to the daily, the Turkish president will receive in the coming days a delegation that previously met with the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) banned in the republic, Abdullah Ocalan.

"President Erdogan is expected to receive a delegation from the (pro-Kurdish - ed.) DEM party in the coming days. The details of the meeting and its possible political consequences will be discussed with the ruling party, and a new strategy to be followed in this process will be determined," the publication says.

Recall, in late February, representatives of the Turkish pro-Kurdish party DEM read Ocalan's appeal to the PKK with a call for dissolution and disarmament. Kurdish armed detachments PYD (Democratic Union Party) said afterward that they are ready to lay down their arms if they are allowed to conduct political activities in Turkey. The government expects the dissolution of the PKK to take two to three months. At the same time, according to media reports, the Turkish leadership is developing a plan of military operations in case the PKK disobeys Ocalan's call and refuses to lay down arms.

This is not the first such call by Ocalan to the PKK from prison. Armed conflict with the party began in Turkey in 1984 and resumed in 2015.
