Article 307: ‘Georgian Dream’ started the procedure of returning the article “On State Treason” to the Criminal Code

The Legal Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament, whose legitimacy is not recognised by the opposition, supported the restoration of the article ‘on state treason’ in the Criminal Code.

This will be Article 307 (abolished in 2007 - ed.).

The offences under articles 308, 309, 310, 311, 312, 313, 314, 315, 318 and/or 319 of the Criminal Code will fall under state treason. They apply to both Georgian and non-Georgian citizens.

The following actions will be considered treason:

▪️Нарушение territorial integrity of Georgia;▪️Заключение or negotiating an unconstitutional agreement;▪️нарушение foreign security of Georgia;▪️вступление to a foreign intelligence service;▪️посягательство on the defence capability of Georgia;▪️разглашение state secrets; ▪️шпионаж;▪️заговор or rebellion with the purpose of violent change of the constitutional order of Georgia;▪️саботаж;▪️оказание assisting a foreign state, a foreign organisation or an organisation controlled by a foreign state in activities directed against Georgia.

The last paragraphs can be interpreted very broadly, the media noted.
