Relations between Armenia and Russia are built on mutual interests, the Armenian authorities do not intend to strain, worsen or break relations with Moscow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on a visit to Estonia, said on Monday.

During the briefing, a journalist asked Pashinyan whether Armenia is ready to withdraw from Russia's sphere of influence.

The Armenian prime minister replied that in international relations one should choose words, and inattention to words will spoil any relations. “As for our relations with the Russian Federation... Our relations are and should be based on mutual interests. We adhere to the foreign policy of balance and balancing.”, Pashinyan said. According to him, this means that the Armenian authorities do not present and align their foreign policy in one direction and try to find “the right balances” in foreign policy.

He noted that one of the manifestations of such a policy was the adoption by the Armenian parliament of a law on starting the process of the country's accession to the EU.

“Sometimes, including in Armenia, there are comments that incorrectly reflect the reality. We have no intentions to inflame, break, spoil relations with Russia. We want to have good relations with all international partners. We want to settle relations with regional countries - Azerbaijan and Turkey, further improve relations with Georgia and Iran, deepen relations with the EU,” Pashinyan said.
