Four US congressmen have sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging him to hold Azerbaijan accountable for war crimes and ethnic cleansing in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

The letter is sent on behalf of Congressmen Frank Pallone, Gus Biliriakis, Brad Sherman and David Valadao.

In their letter, the congressmen propose to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan within the framework of the Magnitsky Act, as well as to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia, which finds itself under blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The need to release all Armenian prisoners unjustly held in Baku, as well as to protect Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh is also emphasized.

In their letter, the congressmen also draw the attention of the U.S. Secretary of State to the Armenian community in Syria and its rich Christian heritage.
